What makes one of these good

Nothing complicated. It has to stay on, bend, and go on with one hand.

1. It holds at the ankle
   An elastic band or a soft strap. A pretty shoe that comes off in the car is not a shoe you will reach for twice.

2. It folds in your hand
   A soft sole all the way through, so nothing works against a foot that is still learning the floor.

3. It cleans
   Faux leather takes a damp cloth. Fabric pairs are lighter and cooler, and they do better in a gentle wash than they look like they will.

Sizing by months is a rough guide

Measure the foot rather than trusting the age on the box. A little room is right, a lot of room means the shoe slides and comes off.

For a christening or a photo, put the pair on for an evening first. It is the only way to know whether a strap sits where it should.
