Why not just buy suede

Buy suede if you want the real thing: it ages better and it looks better up close. Two reasons people land here instead.

1. Water
   Real suede marks when it gets wet, and the mark tends to stay. Faux suede does not carry that risk, which makes it the easier pair to wear without thinking about the sky.

2. Upkeep
   No brush, no protective spray, no waiting for a pair to dry flat. A damp cloth over the nap and it comes back.

What you give up

The nap is shorter and more even than the real thing, so it reads a little flatter in daylight. It also shows dust more on dark colors, which is a two-minute problem rather than a real one.

Same rule as faux leather on care: no cream, no polish. A soft brush over the nap, dry, and nothing else.
