Summer Loafers

Open and breathable shapes for the hottest months, in suede, fabric and leather. This is the rack to look at if you want a shoe you can wear without socks and still put on again the next morning.

What makes a loafer work in summer

Three things, and only one of them is about how it looks.

  1. A material that breathes
Fabric first, then leather and suede. A sealed synthetic upper on a ninety-degree day is the one thing that will make you take the shoe off.

  2. A low-cut opening
Cut under the ankle bone so nothing rubs with bare feet. The boat shapes here are the ones built for it.

  3. Light weight
A thin flexible sole beats a thick one in July, and it packs flat for a trip.

Wearing them without socks, and keeping them

Use a no-show liner. It is invisible, it stops the lining from absorbing an entire summer, and it is genuinely the difference between a pair that lasts one season and one that lasts three.

Rotate two pairs. A shoe worn two days running never dries out inside, and that is what finishes a summer loafer long before the outside gives up.
