Women's Platform Loafers

A platform loafer gives you height without asking you to balance on anything. The sole is thick under the whole foot, so it walks like a flat and stands like a heel. Two thirds of this rack is faux leather, with leather and suede making up most of the rest.

Why the thick sole works

It is the one way to add two inches that costs you nothing in comfort, and that is why it has not gone away.

  1. The height is even
Your heel and your toe rise together, so your foot stays flat inside the shoe and your weight does not pile onto the front.

  2. The lug tread grips
Most of these soles are cut with deep notches. On a wet sidewalk that matters more than anything about the upper.

  3. It balances a wide leg
A thin shoe under a wide pant disappears. A platform holds its own and keeps the proportion right.

3 mistakes to avoid when buying platform loafers

  1. Underestimating the weight
A thick rubber sole is heavier than it looks on a screen. For a full day of walking, take the lighter of two pairs you like equally.

  2. Wearing them with a short hem
A cropped pant over a chunky sole shortens the leg. Either the pant covers the top of the shoe, or it stops well above the ankle. The middle ground is the trap.

  3. Buying the tallest one first
The jump from a flat to a four-inch platform is bigger than it looks. Start lower, and you will actually wear the pair.
