Girls' Loafers

Choosing between the styles

Small rack, three real choices, and they are about the fastening more than the look.

1. The plain slip-on
   Nothing to fasten, nothing to lose. The fastest one out the door and the easiest for a young child.

2. The buckle strap
   A Mary Jane front. It holds the foot down properly, which is worth it for a girl who runs everywhere.

3. The glossy pair
   For a wedding or a party. A damp cloth takes off whatever the day put on it, which is the reason to choose the shine over a matte finish here.

On size and on comfort

A thumb's width of room in front of the toes, checked every couple of months. Children do not report a tight shoe, they just refuse it.

If the pair is for one occasion, have her wear it around the house for an evening first. That is where you find the seam that rubs, not on the day.
