Men's Tassel Loafers

The tassel loafer is the dressiest thing you can slip on without going glossy. Half of this rack is faux leather, a quarter is suede, and the rest is leather or carries a shine. The material decides whether it reads office or weekend.

Same shoe, two registers

Nothing changes but the surface, and the surface changes everything.

1. In suede
   Matte and soft, so the tassels read as a detail rather than an announcement. This is the version that works with jeans and with an unstructured jacket.

   Sharper and more formal. Worn with a suit, a tassel loafer is a genuine alternative to a lace-up, and a far more comfortable one.

   About one pair in seven. Reserve it for evenings, where the shine is the point.

Two things worth checking

Look at how the tassels are attached. Stitched into the seam lasts. Glued on top comes off, and it comes off on the side you kick a curb with.

And look at the sole. A leather sole is handsome and slippery in the rain, a rubber one is neither. For a shoe you will wear to work in all weather, take the rubber.
