Women's Wedge Loafers

A wedge gives you the height of a heel with the ground contact of a flat. There is nothing to balance on, because the sole runs in one piece from the toe to the back. Mostly faux leather here, with leather and suede behind it.

Why a wedge instead of a heel

Three reasons, and they are all practical rather than stylistic.

  1. It does not sink
Grass, gravel, a wooden deck, a sidewalk grate. A wedge crosses all of them, and a narrow heel does not.

  2. The weight is spread
Your foot is not tipped forward onto the ball. That is the difference you feel at hour six, not hour one.

  3. It reads softer
A wedge is less formal than a heel of the same height. It goes with denim and with a summer dress in a way a block heel does not.

Getting the height right

Look at the difference between the front and the back rather than the total height. A wedge with a thick front is far flatter to walk in than the number suggests.

If the front is thin and the back is tall, you are essentially in a heel with a filled-in gap, and it will feel like one.
